THE NAKED CRIME SCENE HAS LEFT RESIDENTS OF LAKESIDE IN FEAR
The crime scene was gruesome. The lady of the house was found on her matrimonial bed dead with a bullet between her eyes. Her Pastor's head was on the floor while his legs hung on the bed also dead with three bullet wounds. One at his back just below his shoulders, one in his chest & another in his ribs.
Both naked, it seemed as though the killer found them in the sexual act. The first bullet in the back below his shoulders & that amount of blood splashed on the white sheets indicates the lovers were unaware of the killer entering the room.
They probably died without glancing into the eyes of the murderer. The question on the lips of residents in the quiet suburbs of Lakeside is; who is behind this brutal murderer?
Who has the motive? The house is the last on Botha Avenue. There is a long veld between the house & lakeside train station. If it is a common thief, why didn't they take anything valuable from the house?
Not even a spoon was stolen. The person who is behind this wanted to kill these secret lovers, but why?
On Friday 28th July Mr. Peters a software engineer was traveling to Durban for work where he would spend the whole weekend. His flight was scheduled at 10:45 however, having missed flights before due to traffic in Cape Town, he wanted to beat traffic so he left home at 6 AM.
His wife said she will drop the kids at school & then go to the gym. Bronwyn is passionately known as Mrs. Peters in her community, a sweet loving people's person.
The circumstances surrounding her death shocked the community. This is one family you would think had it all. A loving Christian couple that was admired both by this Lakeside community & at Jesus Christ Our Hope Church.
Her nature of death revealed she was involved in a sexual relationship with her Pastor, Obi Akwanke. Pastor Obi, a Nigerian pastor who founded & Pastored Jesus Christ Our Hope Church in Maitland, Cape Town. His South African wife Tsakani originally from Tzaneen in Limpopo province is a high-ranking Navy officer at the Navy headquarters in Simons Town.
On this fateful day, she was in Limpopo province checking up on her mother who was admitted to the hospital after a minor stroke.
Mrs. Peters, a graphic designer and very good at her work worked from home. She designed the logo for Jesus Christ Our Hope Church, and the Church website & offered her services whenever the church needed flyers, posters, business cards, etc.
There was no sign to show that she was having an affair with Pastor O as he is fondly called by his church members. This death is both shocking & shameful. Mr. Peters is in Durban, & Mrs. Tsakani Akwanke is in Tzaneen. The two will soon know that their spouses were cheating on them. In death discovering your partner was unfaithful.
How do you mourn such a tragic death & deal with the anger of being betrayed? How to you protect your kids in this age of social media from knowing the details surrounding their mother's death? Who is behind this crime?
Botha Avenue became the center of the murder crime. While there are crime spots that make headlines, Lakeside is relatively a safer neighborhood with a police station nearby, the mobile security response company & the mountain bicycle security men patrolling the area. The Peters' house is now a crime scene. Police, forensic experts, ambulances & plain clothed dressed detectives surrounded the house while neighbors couldn't hide their curiosity.
Mthobeli was in tears shattered by the death of Mrs. Peters. To make life even worse Police officers kept asking her questions. She had already gave a statement but it seemed every other unit that came to the crime scene wanted to get a report from her.
I thought Police in a way treated Mthobeli like a suspect. This woman practically raised this couple's children; Benedict (15) & Christabel (9). She started to work as an helper for this family when their firstborn child Benedict was 3 years old. Mthobeli was happy working for this wonderful couple.
She had other problems but not about her employers. Why are they questioning the poor lady instead offering her counseling after discovering her boss lady in the pool of blood?
The previous night Mthobeli who lives in the township of West lake received a message from her employer;
Boss Lady: hi Mtho. Peters is leaving very early to catch a flight. I will drop the kids off at school and then head off to the gym. You don't have to come in earlier. Be here at 11:30 AM. I be back then.
Mthobeli: ok that's fine thanks đ
Boss Lady: Night đ´
Mthobeli: good nite đ
According to the house helper she arrived at about 11:20 AM. She rang the bell but no response from Mrs. Peters. She thought maybe she is not home. She waited outside till 11:45 AM. She called her phone but it would just ring & take her to voice mail.
When she checked the door, she could see the key inside. The main door was locked from the inside. She decided to go around the house to check the other door by the poolside while calling her phone, as she passed outside the window of the Master Bedroom she headed Mrs. Peters's phone ringing. It was strange. It's not like Mrs. Peter's leaving the phone at home. She called her but no response. She then took a garden chair & climbed to have a view of the bedroom. The windows were open, she pulled the curtain aside to have a clear view, & what she saw shocked & shattered her. She screamed so loud running to the roadside.
Mthobile was the first person to see the lifeless bodies laying in the pool of blood with the man she would later identify as Pastor Obi Akwanke of Jesus Christ Our Hope Church.
